8/15/06 11:50 pmHave you ever noticed that Dumbledore sounds like "dumb old door" when you say it out loud a few times? |
8/7/06 05:04 pmI was just reading a bit of Harry Potter fanfic and it just occurred to me (again) how ridiculous the whole "You-Know-Who" thing is. Why, if Voldemort were to live for a couple more centuries, pretty soon he would be called Yinuwho and the Ditheaters. Just try saying "You-Know-Who" and "Death Eaters" out-loud a few times and you'll see what I mean. Snerk. Really. |
7/31/06 05:19 pmRecently I have been re-reading many of my old favorites in the Harry Potter fandom, and, as a result, have come up with many new and interesting story ideas for my own writing. As a secondary result of my reading habits, I have had the chance to become re-acquainted with the works of several truly wonderful writers. One of those writers is DrT, who can be found here at FictionAlley. DrT is an excellent writer who pays close attention to details and has created several very interesting worlds for Harry Potter and his friends to live and learn in. Quite frankly, I highly recommend all of his stories and one-shots, as they are all truly excellent and well thought-out works. DrT's one draw-back, in my opinion, is the fact that he does not write slash except as minor background pairings. However, his stories do, for the most part, focus more on plot-line than on romance, and so are definitely worth reading even if you do not care for Het. If you are looking for some interesting, well-written, and detailed Harry Potter fanfiction, you will greatly enjoy DrT's works. |
7/21/06 11:18 pmNow here is a plot idea that I have yet to come across. Probably because writing it well would essentially mean creating an entire world from scratch. Still, it would be most interesting to see it done. Harry Potter Plot Idea: What if Voldemort or one of his "Blood Purity" followers won? What would the world look like 1000 years from now? When the Book was charmed to hide the Muggleborns names right before the Coup and subsequent fall of the "Light", Blood purists had no way of identifying new muggleborn Wizards and Witches and thus could not kill them or bind their magic. Without indoctrination into the Wizarding world, how will the so-called "Muggleborns" make use of their powers? Meanwhile, with a decreasing population and a lack of new ideas, how is the Wizarding world faring? As the Wizarding world grows rich in tradition but poor in innovation, the non-magical world has developed a new and better way of life, combining science with so-called "psi" powers to reach new heights of creativity and achievement. What will happen when the two worlds collide? Will they destroy each other or can they coexist? A few important facts: Only about 500 Wizards & Witches are actually involved one way or the other in the "War" that Harry Potter grows up in. This makes up a very, very small percentage of all known Magical folk world-wide (perhaps .05 %). Most Magical folk (like nonmagical folk) simply want to live their lives peacefully, and don't really care who is running the government as long as it doesn't effect their lives personally. So withdrawing from the Muggle world is fine with them, having the Government running around crucio-ing their children or themselves for speaking their minds is not and will not be tolerated. Thus, other than withdrawing almost completely from the Muggle world, life continues as normal for most magical folk. This first begins in Britain, but eventually spreads around the World until all Magical countries/communities are under a central government and have withdrawn from the Muggle world. As a final act of underground resistance, all methods of selecting students for magical schools are charmed to hide muggleborn students in order to protect them from either execution or magical servitude or whatever policy you wish to have the government to adopt towards them. It must distasteful enough that some people would be willing to protect them from their fate by charming the Books to hide their names (for example: kidnapping them at birth and having them adopted by Magical families would not work for this plot line) but not so distasteful that the average Witch or Wizard would be willing to overthrow the Government to prevent it (for example: the public torture, rape, and violent and painful execution of young children would be far to extreme for this plot line). As time passes, on the nonmagical side of the equation those children who would previously have been identified as magical discover their powers on their own, learn to use them to a certain extent, and eventually integrate them into nonmagical society as just another talent. On the Wizarding side of the equation life proceeds as normal but a closed society with no new bloodlines being introduced means that new steps must be taken to keep the gene pool as large as possible and prevent the negative consequences of wide-spread inbreeding. Customs and Traditions arise to deal with this. Possible solutions include poly (group) marriages, Government ccontrol of conception, same-sex conception, hermaphroditism, etc. |
6/22/06 10:37 pm - Harry Potter: Growing Up (revised) H/R PG-13Note: This is a revised version of the first few pages of my Harry Potter Fic-in-progress. Again, unofficial test version. I need a reason for Ron to rescue Harry from his relatives, but felt that my first attempt was a little cliche and 2-dimensional. I am not really a fan of Dumbledore, but I think my previous portrayal of him was a bit shallow. So, I have changed a few things and tried to add a bit more depth to make the scenario more plausible. Let me know if you like this attempt better or if I should stick to the old version. Harry Potter: Growing Up Tiffany McLeod Technorati Tags: Harry Potter, Slash, Fanfiction </div> </div> |
4/29/06 04:25 pm - Harry Potter: Growing Up - Ron/HarryBelow is the beginning chap of a Ron/Harry story I'm writing. This is a rough draft and has not been beta'd or otherwise edited. No doubt a lot of this will be cut from the final copy, as I can be a bit wordy and detail-oriented. I want to write a ron-rescues-harry story that has the boys on their own for a while and shows Ron as a complex individual. This will be mainly about Ron's struggle to understand and cope with what it means to be an adult. It will be Ron/Harry. It's rated PG right now, but that will change. I welcome feedback, as it will help me improve and continue. Please keep in mind that this is a Rough Draft. ( Read Story ) Technorati Tags: Fanfiction, Harry Potter, Slash |
